@The Price of Blood Money: Yahoo Parents Association

In the quiet corners of Nigerian society, a chilling darkness has taken root. It festers in the minds of young men, desperate for riches, seduced by the false allure of sudden wealth. These are the so-called "Yahoo boys," youths who seek wealth not through hard work, education, or innovation but through ritual killings and heinous crimes, sacrificing the innocent in pursuit of what they call success. Their victims are often young girls, whose lives are brutally cut short, their dreams snuffed out in the most gruesome way imaginable.

What has brought our nation to this terrifying place, where the blood of the innocent is shed for money? The answer is complex but points to a deep moral decay, where material wealth has been elevated above human life, integrity, and decency. And shockingly, behind many of these blood-soaked crimes, we find not only the hands of wayward youths but also the silent, or sometimes not-so-silent, support of their own parents.

๐Ÿ“ŒThe Sin of Parental Complicity

It is no longer uncommon to hear stories of parents who cheer on their sons, pushing them down the path of wickedness, even going so far as to introduce them to herbalists, ‘babalawo’, ‘dibia’, alfas, prophets, and spiritualists - people who promise quick riches through rituals. These parents, who should be the moral compass for their children, have instead become enablers of evil. They see the flashy cars, the expensive clothes, and the wads of cash, and their hearts swell with pride, oblivious - or worse, indifferent - to the innocent blood that stains those riches. Obviously, parenting has sunk to a new low in Nigeria as some of the parents of these criminal youngsters unabashedly float and flaunt the "Association of Yahoo Parents" advocating for and justifying the evils of their children including attacking and protesting against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for carrying out its lawful duties of arresting and prosecuting some Yahoo boys. Whither our once cherished African values! A Yoruba proverb says, 'Omo yin o se agbafo, o nk'aso wale' - your child doesn't work in a laundry yet he keeps bringing clothes home. "Agba ti o kehun soro, aa ketan sare" - an elder who could not speak against the indiscipline of their child now will be forced to run and jump later when the fruits of the indiscipline ripen.

To these parents, I say this: You are not only killing your own children spiritually, but you are also accomplices to murder. You have forgotten that your primary role is to guide, nurture, and instill values in your children, not to lead them into the hands of spiritualists who promise wealth through the blood of others. You have traded the priceless soul of your child for material possessions that will eventually turn to dust. What will you say when your son’s soul stands condemned before God? What excuse will you offer when the cries of the innocent rise up to heaven against you?

๐Ÿ“ŒThe Deception of the Spiritualists

To the so-called spiritualists, herbalists, alfas, and prophets who offer these boys the false promises of wealth through bloodshed, your time of reckoning is near. You have twisted the sacred into the profane, using your knowledge not to heal or help but to destroy. You prey on the greed and desperation of youths who have lost their way, filling their minds with the lie that riches can be earned through murder. You deceive them into believing that money is worth more than human life, and in doing so, you have become agents of death.

Please know this: the wealth you promise will never bring peace. The riches you claim to deliver come with a curse that will haunt these boys for the rest of their lives. You may line your own pockets with their offerings, but the weight of the souls you have helped destroy will follow you to your grave. There is no amount of money or spiritual protection that can shield you from the wrath of a just God. You have become the false prophets that scripture warns about, leading people astray for your own gain. Repent before it is too late!

๐Ÿ“ŒTo the Youth: Choose Life Over Death

To the Nigerian youths enticed by this path, blinded by the pursuit of quick riches, I ask you to stop and think. Is the price of wealth truly worth your soul? Is the fleeting glamour of money, luxury cars, and designer clothes worth the eternal torment that awaits those who shed innocent blood? You may believe that you can outrun the consequences, that wealth will shield you from justice, but make no mistake: there is no hiding from the judgment of God and the eternal price you will pay for your actions.

What happened to the spirit of hard work? Where are the dreams that once fueled your ambition? Have you forgotten that true wealth comes from dedication, perseverance, and the blessing of God, not from the suffering and death of others? When did our society lose sight of these values? It is not too late for you to turn back. You are not too far gone to seek forgiveness, to find redemption, and to rebuild your life on a foundation of integrity.

Look around you: countless youths have achieved greatness through hard work, education, and honest entrepreneurship. They are the real success stories, not those whose hands are stained with blood. You can build a future you can be proud of, but it requires patience, perseverance, and faith.

๐Ÿ“ŒA Call for a Moral Reawakening

As a society, we must collectively condemn this rising trend of ritual killings and blood money. We must hold our children accountable for their actions, but we must also hold ourselves accountable as parents, elders, and spiritual leaders. We must return to the values that once made us strong: integrity, hard work, respect for life, and faith in God’s provision. No amount of wealth is worth the price of a human soul, and no blessing can come from the shedding of innocent blood.

To every Nigerian parent: do not cheer your children into destruction. Do not become blind to the wickedness they are involved in because you enjoy the temporary wealth it brings. Guide them back to the path of righteousness before it is too late. And to the youths: you are better than this. Your future holds promise, but only if you reject the path of evil and embrace the hard but honest road to success.

May we all awaken to the truth and turn away from the evil that threatens to consume our society. It is not too late to change, to seek forgiveness, and to rebuild. The lives of countless innocent souls hang in the balance, and so does the soul of our nation.

๐Ÿ“ŒIn Conclusion

The time for change is now. Let us reject the pursuit of blood money and the spiritualists who peddle lies in exchange for death. Let us return to the values of hard work, dignity, and respect for human life. And let us remember that no amount of wealth can ever replace the soul of a human being. The future of our nation, and the future of our children, depends on it.
