@Charity, Compassion, and the Light of True Living
Today the world unites in the glow of two radiant celebrations — the blessed Mawlid an-Nabi, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the International Day of Charity, a global reminder to reach out with open hands and kind hearts. What a meaningful convergence of faith and humanity!
Prophet Muhammad’s life was a living testimony of charity in action. His compassion for the poor, his defense of the marginalized, his encouragement of generosity as an act of worship — all remain timeless lessons. His teachings remind us that wealth does not diminish by giving, but multiplies in eternal value. To mark his birth is not only to celebrate his memory, but to embrace his example of mercy, humility, and boundless giving.
The United Nations, through the International Day of Charity, invites the global family to pause and extend hands of love. It is a call beyond borders, religions, and ideologies — a call to put kindness above indifference, and generosity above greed. When this international observance coincides with the remembrance of the Prophet’s birth, it creates a beautiful harmony: one echoes the other.
Young people especially must hear this melody of compassion. In a world shaken by inequality, conflict, and selfish pursuits, charity is a bridge to peace. To give is to live at a higher plane of fulfilment — for fulfilment is not in what you gather, but in the lives you touch. Each act of charity, no matter how small, is a candle lit in someone’s darkness.
Let this day not pass as a mere commemoration. Let it ignite within you the desire to be charitable daily — with your time, with your smile, with your resources, with your talents. Remember, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others.” What greater legacy can youth embrace than to become a river of goodness flowing into their communities?
So, today we celebrate not only history but also responsibility. We celebrate the birth of a Prophet whose life was charity embodied, and we honor a global call that reminds us to keep charity alive. As the candles of Mawlid an-Nabi glow and the voices of charity rise across the earth, may we step forward as a generation determined to heal, to help, and to give.
The world is waiting for your hands, your heart, and your light.
Yours in fulfilment,
