@Young Person, Beware of Who You Choose as Your Role Model
@Young Person, Beware of Who You Choose as Your Role Model
You live in a world where screens glow brighter than minds, where actors and actresses parade as demigods, and where fame is mistaken for virtue. In the dazzling spectacle of the film industry, you may be tempted to idolize those who appear larger than life. Yet, behind the glamour, behind the applause, a different reality unfolds—one that should make you pause and think.
Recent events have unveiled the unabashed truth about some of your so-called favorite actors and actresses—figures whose names once commanded admiration but now reek of shame. The veil has been lifted, exposing their secret indulgences, their reckless abandon in shameless sexual escapades. These revelations, no longer whispered in corners but boldly sprawled across media platforms, should serve as a wake-up call.
The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, like many entertainment industries worldwide, thrives not just on talent but also on unspoken transactions—where the demand and supply of free sex often determine who rises and who remains in the shadows. Many have traded dignity for roles, morality for connections, and self-respect for fleeting fame. It is an open secret that beneath the dazzling costumes and scripted emotions, a cesspool of moral decay festers. Yet, you find yourself enthralled by these individuals, mimicking their lifestyles, and tagging them as your role models.
You must ask yourself: What truly makes a role model? Is it their wealth, their social media presence, or their ability to entertain? Should a person whose private life is riddled with indiscretions be the one you look up to? A role model should embody integrity, discipline, and purpose—qualities that stand firm even when the lights go off and the cameras stop rolling.
Do not be deceived by the glittering façade of the entertainment world. Fame is not synonymous with righteousness, and popularity does not equate to good character. You are at a critical stage of life where your choices shape your destiny. Choosing the wrong influences can derail your path, corrupt your values, and lead you down a road of regrets.
Look beyond the screens. Seek inspiration from individuals who uplift, who exemplify virtues that transcend trends. The world needs young people with moral strength, not mere fans of the morally bankrupt. Hold yourself to a higher standard. Be intentional about who you admire, because who you follow today determines the path you tread tomorrow.
