@Teach Children How To Think, Not Just What To Search


We live in a world where answers are only a few taps away. A child can search for almost anything and receive thousands of results within seconds. Yet, having access to information does not automatically make a child knowledgeable. In an age of Google, social media and artificial intelligence, one of the greatest gifts education can give a learner is not the ability to find answers, but the ability to ask the right questions.


We must teach children to pause before they believe, to investigate before they share and to verify before they accept information as truth. Not everything found online is accurate. Not every viral post is factual. Not every confident voice is an expert. Digital literacy therefore goes beyond knowing how to operate a device. It includes the ability to think critically, evaluate sources, recognise misinformation and make responsible decisions with information.


The classroom must become a place where curiosity is encouraged and questioning is celebrated. Instead of always asking, “What is the answer?”, we should sometimes ask, “How do you know?” “What evidence supports this?” “Can you find another explanation?” These simple questions can transform learners from passive consumers of information into active thinkers.


Technology is powerful, but the mind using it must be even more powerful. We should not raise a generation that can search everything but cannot discern anything; a generation that can generate answers but cannot evaluate them. Our responsibility as educators is to prepare learners not merely for a world overflowing with information, but for a world where wisdom lies in knowing what to believe, what to question and what to do with what we know.


Teach the child how to search, yes. More importantly, teach the child how to think.
