Do Not Make People Pay for the Wounds Others Gave You
@Do Not Make People Pay for the Wounds Others Gave You
Someone broke your heart, and now you make everyone who loves you stand trial for what they did not do. Someone betrayed your trust, and now every sincere gesture looks suspicious. Someone abandoned you, and now you keep one foot outside every relationship, ready to run before anyone gets the chance to leave. Perhaps the cruelest thing about an untreated wound is that it can make an innocent person pay the price of someone else’s crime.
Think about the person who genuinely cares for you but keeps knocking on a door you have locked because someone else once walked through it and destroyed everything inside. Think about the friend who keeps proving their loyalty while you keep measuring them against the betrayal of another. Think about the person who loves you sincerely but is slowly becoming exhausted from fighting ghosts they never created. Sometimes, without realising it, we turn good people into victims of stories they never wrote.
Healing does not mean becoming foolish again. It does not mean throwing away boundaries, ignoring warning signs, or trusting everybody blindly. Healing means refusing to let yesterday become the judge of everybody who arrives today. It means learning to say, “What happened to me was real, but this person is not the person who hurt me.” Your scars deserve understanding, but they must not become weapons against innocent hearts.
Please, do not make tomorrow’s innocent people pay yesterday’s criminals’ debt. Someone may be standing before you today with clean hands, a sincere heart and genuine intentions. Do not send them away simply because somebody else taught you that everyone leaves. Do not destroy a beautiful possibility because an ugly experience taught you to expect ugliness. The person who wounded you already took something from you. Do not let them take away your capacity to recognise and receive good people too.
