A Position of Power Is Not a Licence to Make People Powerless

@A Position of Power Is Not a Licence to Make People Powerless

Leadership is a sacred responsibility, not a personal licence to intimidate, oppress or diminish others. Whether in government, the workplace, the classroom, the family or the community, occupying a position of authority does not make anyone superior in human worth. A title may give us power over decisions, but it must never become a weapon against people's dignity.

The true test of leadership is not how many people tremble when we speak, but how many people grow because we lead. Leaders who silence questions, punish honest opinions, suppress potential and surround themselves with fearful followers may command obedience, but they are destroying the very foundation of leadership. Fear can force compliance; it cannot inspire greatness.

Power is temporary, but the consequences of how we use it can outlive our tenure. The subordinate we humiliate today may be the leader who transforms tomorrow's society. The student we discourage may be the innovator we desperately need. The community member we silence may hold the solution we have been searching for. Wise leaders create opportunities, empower others and build people who can stand tall, think freely and contribute meaningfully.

Never use your position to make others feel small so you can feel big. Leadership is not the art of keeping people beneath us; it is the responsibility of helping people rise. When power becomes a tool for human development rather than human domination, leadership fulfils its true purpose. The ultimate evidence of great leadership is not how indispensable we make ourselves appear, but how much stronger, freer and more capable people become because we served.

Yours in fulfilment,
